The first song I ever learned in school (kindergarten) went like this:
Autumn leaves are now falling,
Red and yellow and brown.
Autumn leaves are now falling,
See them tumbling down.
There followed a lot of la-la-ing that won't translate well in type but if we ever meet in person, or talk on the phone, and you ask nicely, I'll sing it for you.
One of the reasons I love living where I do (southern Ontario) is the fact that we enjoy four distinct seasons here. All have their merits and drawbacks. All have identifiers that set them apart from each other.
Autumn, the season we're entering now, is noted for its lovely days, cool nights and riotous colours.
Here's a few pics to show you what I mean:
Eat your hearts out all you folks living in sunny California, balmy Brazil or awesome Australia.

Fall has always been my favorite season of the year for the reasons you mentioned. Nice pictures. See you on the SHS Forum :)
This morning is the first time in four years that I can smell snow in the air! Your pics are wonderful. Around here (Central Indiana) leaves seem to be falling faster than they are turning.
...And your welcome to vent on my blog any time! Congrats on 4 months smoke free

Yes Othmar. It's a good looking forum and I hope you have much success with it.
Hiya Jen. Thanks for the permission and the congrats. :)
OK, trying again - I couldn't get a comment to post three times yesterday.
I love those pictures - and was thinking, if someone you knew had a CafePress shop she (or he, if that were the case) could use some of those pics for some lovely items...and you'd maybe even get one or two of 'em as freebies! All items produced at such store might even benefit Absolute Write if people bought them! "Buy this beautiful mug with a lovely autumn themed picture taken by our own Frank Baron!"
You should send someone with a CafePress store an email to discuss...just sayin' :-)
Great idea Dawno!
If ONLY I knew someone like you described!
;)
Leaves turn color in the south, too, Frank.
They just do it *much* later in the season.
Unique...
Oh.
Well then....
Nevermind! :)
Wow. Those are great pictures. We do get some autumn color here in the desert, but you have to go out of your way to find it.
Thanks Matt. I've always been intrigued by deserts but have never been near one. One of these days....
I was looking up the words to "Come Little Leaves Said the Wind One Day..." and I also remembered anothr song I learned in first grade, the first verse of which you quote in your blog with the beautiful photos? Do you remember the rest of this song?
I can remember a verse like: Autumn leaves are now falling, (can't remember--la, la, la, la; When the wind blows his trumpet, they go whirling around"
Then the last verse: Autumn leaves when they're tired, in a soft, huddled heap, at the foot of the old tree, soon will fall fast asleep. I always loved this little song. If you know it, all please post it. Janet G.
Alas Janet, I wish I could help. But if I ever knew another verse, it vacated my mind long ago to make room for other stuff. :)
I tried Googling, as I'm sure you have, but came up empty. Good luck to you.
