A Pictorial Farewell (I Hope) To Winter (#164)

Some winter mornings are Creator-kissed and glisten with near-blinding brilliance. (Click on the pictures for a larger view.)

My eyes can rest a bit in the relative gloom of the cedar grove.

On another day, a warmer one, mist adds to the beauty and mood, almost softening the jagged chunks of ice in the foreground.

Views like this are our reward for enduring weeks of below-freezing temperatures and shoveling tons of snow.

A small tree in my backyard bows under its snowy burden. After taking the shot, I stepped outside, shook off the snow and the tree sprang back up, I trust, gratefully.

In a few short weeks, the cushions will be back on the chairs and I'll be sitting there, enjoying a beverage.

I hope. I really, really hope. This has been a lovely, Currier-&-Ives-like, but overly-long winter.

Niiiiice shots of very familiar surroundings. They're all entirely beautiful, but I love the one of the creek best. I'll bet you were almost in the water yourself with that one. :)

My strongest reaction was for the creek photo, too. I didn't noticed anything rising. Your winter wasn't too hard on the fish, I hope.

Here's to Spring, Frank. It seems to have (finally) arrived here, in the lower latitudes, so hopefully it will venture your way soon, too.

Thanks Hilary. Nah, just hanging off a bridge. ;)

Hi Bruce. No, the winter wasn't extreme, temperature-wise. But it was much snowier than in recent years and its grip is tenacious. We should be warmer. My concerns for the fish are whether they'll be finished spawning before the fishing season opens. Keep your fingers crossed.

I hope you're right Lori. Other signs are apparent - just need a few degrees of warmth. :)

All lovely shots--the misty photo took my breath away. So much snow, but the patio furniture is what makes me really feel it, almost irresistible not to sweep all that fluff off the table.

It'll be fun to see you in the same spot enjoying the sunshine. Maybe you'll be napping with your mouth open & Hilary will capture the moment...

Ahhhh, Frank, your photos mesmerize me! Would love to see a "movie" of your stills---maybe youtube-style?

Good luck with the blogging/posting "challenges".

I'll put in a good word with the gods and goddesses of spring for you--they're here in Florida, you know. But they don't stay long, the hell cats of summer soon chase them out:)

Beautiful photos Frank. The mist on the river is a great shot. I'm sure the tree was happy to have you shake the snow off. I really like the way the snow piled on your furniture, very artistic.

Jo, she wouldn't dare. I've got a few of her in my files.... ;)

That's beyond my technical expertise MG but it's intriguing. I'll mull.

And I'd appreciate any warm word you might plunk into the gods' ears. :)

Thanks Reb. You are wise and perceptive and have great taste. :)

Hi Frank - I'm over from Hilary's. Those are beautiful shots. The patio one looks especially cold - summer furniture covered in snow. Brr!
I like the misty one and the tree in your yard - it looks like that bough would break with the weight so I'm sure it was very grateful!

I'll be back to see more. Come over see mine if you like - I don't do pictures as good as this, but I talk! and there are pictures, just not as good. ;0)

That last photo is very cool!! Where is your doggie? Did you buy him snow shoes?

It reminds me of home... except there's no creek, or snow, and the trees are Eucalypts. Now I come to think of it, it's nothing like home at all. But still very beautiful.

Hi Cath. Thanks for the visit and kind words. I'm not at home and my computer time is limited but I'll be happy to pay a return visit when I get home. ;)

Hi Spidey. Benny survived the winter just fine - without shoes OR a sweater. I was proud of him.

Thanks Stace. I think there's a certain commonality in nature shots, despite various geological and climactic differences - mebbe it's the fresh air. ;)

You have a lot of snow there...a lot of it...I can't really imagine it, to be honest, but it is pretty. Hope you're all lovely and everything still...Hi to Benny and Lucy :)

I'm nearly always lovely Althea, you know that. ;)

Benny and Lucy say "Hi" back atcha. :)

So sparkly!

Where's my Benny Boy? All that snow looks a little too white.

Hi again Cath and you're welcome.

I think you're more likely to see some words rather than pics next. I only do the photos every once in awhile. :)

Hiya Terrie. Ben does his level best to be EVERYWHERE when we're walking. At once. I'm probably due to post a pic or two of him again though. And you can often get a Benny fix at Hilary's blog if you do some scrolling. ;)

As always you share the most beautiful pictures. Spring has sprung here. Hope it's finally reached you as well. ((HUGS))
