Some Things That Are Good (Issue #161)

A smile from a child.

Being appreciated.

Appreciating.

Watching puppies, kittens or children at play.

Finding exactly what you’re looking for, on sale.

Having someone in your life who remembers your birthday.

Hope.

Finding just the right words.

Holding a loved one’s hand.

Sitting in front of a campfire.

A hard-fought, well-played game.

Sipping good whiskey with a good friend and hardly talking at all.

Learning something new.

Realizing an acquaintanceship has ripened into a friendship.

Watching a released fish swim away.

Laughing.

Nice to take stock every now and then.

What a nice post, it made me smile. I'm with you on everything but the whiskey...swap it for vodka, but then again that would ruin the hardly talking at all part :)

Sigh! I would only add the silence and space after being in the midst of a noisy crowd.

Yes Hilary. Sometimes new things are added - like cribbage! :)

Jo, somehow I'm not surprised that just might be a chatterbox. ;)

That's a great one Reb! I was hoping some folks would chime in with their own. :)

How about..

finding one more Hershey's kiss at the bottom of the bag (refrigerated of course)

finding folding bills in an old coat pocket

finding a new shipment of sunglasses at the "dollar store"

jumper cables

hugs that last a long time

people who make you laugh 'til your stomach hurts

freshly cut grass

friends who stay in touch

(my newest ones)

...gently scratching a full dog's warm belly.

and then

...smelling between his toes (smells like popcorn, really).

The smell of stale milk that puppies get when their ears have been drooping in their weet-bix. I love it. Puppy-smell :)

Gee Stace, I'm not familiar with that one. I've never tried to drown a puppy in a bowl of cereal before - though I've certainly considered it. ;)

Here's a few:

The heat from a woodstove after being outside in -40 weather...

The smell of rain after a dry spell...

Sun-showers...

The smell of fresh-baked bread...

Hey, wait a minute...why is the Bag Lady wasting such a good post on your comments section!!??
Sheesh.

Frank, what do you feed puppies??? We used to give our labrador weet-bix in milk... her ears fell into it so she ended up with this puppy milky smell that I really loved. I know it sounds gross. But to me it's a comforting smell.

Good stuff Bag Lady. But "wasted?" I don't THINK so! You've just added some shine to the collection of golden comments here. ;)

Stace, I've only ever fed them commercial stuff. But your description sounds endearing all right. :)

I couldn't agree more. <3

Thanks Jessi. :)

Yep, all those things.

And...a child being home sick from school, who convinces you to stay out of the office all day, curl up on the couch with him, watch silly movies and rest.

I like the sounds of that one too Lisa. Thanks. :)
